Tiny Horse Unveil Action-Packed Heartwrencher Video for ‘Islands’
New video features wresting, heartache, moving on and a feelgood beat for the summer.
Kingston folk-pop rising stars Tiny Horse will unveil the music video for their summer-ready new single ‘Islands’ today (10 July) at 11 AM, launching a new era for the group following on from last year’s debut album, First Rodeo. That album saw the band win hearts in their hometown of Kingston, ON, and the joyous music video for their locally beloved single ‘The Girls’ picked up the Favourite Video award at the Slaight Music Video Showcase at the Kingston Canadian Film Festival in 2023.
Tiny Horse released ‘Islands’ on 25 June 2025, their first new music in a year, complete with a new look and sound: we saw the band return with a new photoshoot seemingly depicting the duo as wrestlers, and with their usual acoustic folk pop expanded with understated synths and electronic drum sounds, drawing from the likes of Bon Iver, Lorde and The National, while retaining the raw and unadorned harmonies of co-vocalists and founding members Ciara Roberts and Rae Corcoran, that make up the core of the band’s candid songwriting.
As it happens, the new look ties into the upcoming video for ‘Islands’, which the band had previously hinted at in an interview with CFRC Radio’s The Curator, describing the plot as a “high drama athletic match”. The song revolves around themes of “getting through it and getting to the other side”, and the video sees Ciara and Rae fight out the feelings on the mat.
It is directed by award-winning filmmaker Adrien Benson, who recently picked up the jury’s choice at the 2025 Slaight Music Video Showcase for electronic musician and producer Almond Milk’s video for ‘The Curse Is Gone’. Other local characters and crew behind the scenes make cameos in a dance sequence towards the end that will bring a smile to your face.
Tiny Horse kicked off the summer with shows in Toronto, Kingston, Belleville and Windsor, including a headlining appearance at Kingston’s Skeleton Park Arts Fest. They will be playing at Ottawa Bluesfest this week (Sunday, 13 July) with a bigger run of dates planned in the fall, likely to hit venues around Ontario and potentially the United States.
